The Final Solution

After fiddling around with front row and MediaCentral a couple of weeks ago, it was obvious that neither of them really matched my needs. The main priority was to be able to get the music from a couple of iPods playing in the lounge…

So, on a recent visit to the apple store on Regent Street, I got myself an Apple Universal Dock and an Apple Remote (left).
Now, the set-up in the lounge is complete. The remote looks great, but its functionality is somewhat limited. You have to choose a playlist and then control the iPod with the remote, meaning that you can't go back to the menu and select a different playlist, or artist without picking the iPod back up. No biggie though, I just make an on-the-go, or shuffle and skip.
For the time being I have moved my JBL creatures into the lounge, but the next time I head into town I'll pick up some half decent speakers, maybe even another set of creatures, they are great speakers, sound amazing, look good and work flawlessly. If I wanted video and photo libraries at hand, obviously the solution would have been different, but with my iMac I already have the perfect tool to watch films, and this was much cheaper than buying a mac mini and using it as a media centre. You can pick up the dock and remote via apple for under £50.
