Widget: Hard at work

written by Stuart on April 16th, 2006

Being a freelance designer, working from the comfort of my flat, I don't have to worry about someone looking over my shoulder, seeing me watching some hilarious google video, and reprimanding me. Aparantly though, some people have bosses, and have to work in these ghastly places called offices.

It is is these very people for whom I've whipped up a quick widget called 'Hard at work'. Basically, this widget is your last line of defence, when the gaffer wanders in unexpected and you are in the middle of a spread betting session, or you're catching up on the latest from your feed reader…

The widget has two sides, the first of which is an excel spreadsheet, filled with some meaningless data, and the back side is a word document, accessed by flipping the widget with the 'i' in the top right corner.

Now this is by no means the excuse you have been waiting for to down tools, and spend your days reading about Chantelle and Preston, but if it stops just one person getting a bollocking, then it has done enough. So without further adieu, I give you, 'Hard at Work'. It's quite large, given that it needs to cover whatever it is your trying to hide, and I'm not sure whether it will even fit on a 12 inch iBook screen, but then, it's not really that important now is it?

Brilliant idea–I linked to this on my site. Very odd that I chose today to stop by your site after not having been here for a couple of months : )

Genius. I seem to remember a utility back in the dusty DOS days called “HAW” (for Hard At Work) that did a similar thing.

Excellent, I had remembered seeing a webpage that was styled to look like a spreadsheet too, I guess tis is just the latest in a long line of ways to convince people you’re working.

Something to say...
