I thought I’d have a bash at recording a cover of Paolo Nutini’s beautiful song ‘These Streets’. If I remember rightly the original version of this song was released as a free download sometime last year, and went on to be the title track from his Debut Album which did very well in the UK album charts. You’ll have to excuse a couple of duff notes!
For reference purposes, this is what it should sound like: Paulo Nutini - youtube - The guy has an amazing voice and it’s great that he sounds particularly Scottish in that video.
Technical stuff: I recorded it initially via QuickTime Pro, and then extracted separately the audio and video tracks before importing them into Garageband. In GB you can play with the audio to add effects (a little reverb, a little echo, etc) and then couple it up with the video using the video features which were added not too long ago. You can change the video export settings in the preferences, so I just set it to full quality and then exported it to iTunes. Obviously some of the sound and video quality is long with uploading it to the web, but the original file looks good in full screen and the sound quality is fine. The micropone you can see in the foreground is an AKG C1000S.
If you like just the audio from this recording, you can find it and some more goodies in the music section of this very site.
